Four Growers Join the Patriot™ Ranks

GRAIN VALLEY, MISSOURI January, 2003. To meet the growing demand for its popular line of Patriot™ lantanas, American Daylily & Perennials announces the addition of four new licensed propagators, bringing the total number of licensees to 21 in the U.S., Germany, and Canada.

Fahr Greenhouses, located outside St. Louis, Missouri, supplies rooted cuttings of annuals and specialty plants to other greenhouses, growers, nurseries and garden centers. They carry 354 varieties, including all 17 of the Patriot™ Lantanas, as well as offerings from the Athens Select and Flower Fields programs.

Norseco, in business since 1928, is based near Montréal, Québec and serves all greenhouse growers in Eastern Canada (Ontario, Québec and the Maritime provinces). They represent Danziger, Goldsmith Plants, Fischer USA, Suntory, Brandkamp, Kerley, Plant Haven, and Sakata, among others.

Jolly Farmer Products, with locations in Canada and Maine, grows annuals and perennials in a variety of cell sizes and as finished crops. In Canada it is also a Certified Organic producer of greenhouse produce.

Located in beautiful rural Ohio, Possum Run Greenhouses has over 70,000 square feet of production space and more than 12,000 square feet of retail space. It is a member of the Ohio Florists Association, the Greater Cleveland Flower Growers Association, and the Central Ohio Growers Association.

Dr. Jack Roberson's award-winning Patriot™ lantana series grows to 17 selections this year with the addition of four new and unique varieties. The rapid-growing, stately Patriot™ Pillar™ Deen Day Smith (cream-pink) and Patriot™ Pillar™ Marc Cathey (white) are aptly named in honor of two pillars of the horticultural community. Growing to 60" in a single season, these two new offerings make a terrific color summer hedge. Patriot™ Pony™ Red is a royal red semi-compact, maturing to only 18" in height and width. Patriot™ Weeper™ Popcorn has a trailing habit in a unique yellow and white combination, reminiscent of buttered popcorn.

Once a mainstay of Southern gardens, lantanas (lantana camara cultivars) are now in demand by gardeners in Northern regions and all across the U.S. As their popularity has grown, so has the need for new colors and forms to extend the design possibilities of this prolific annual (a perennial in zones 9–10).
